Bolgheri is a small, ancient hamlet in Western Tuscany, just a short distance from the Tyrrhenian coast, famous for a winegrowing tradition that dates back to Etruscan times. Known internationally since the 18th century, Bolgheri wines exploded in the 1960s culminating in 1984, when they were awarded DOC status. It is here that the Knauf family created their own estate, Campo alla Sughera, in 1998; 20 hectares of vineyards where Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Vermentino, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay grapes are grown. The company’s philosophy is to discover new ways of expressing the Bordeaux grape varietals and the unique terroir of the Bolgheri area. Although many people instantly recognise the name Sassicaia, many do not know that there are many other wineries, Campo alla Sughera top among them, that produce equally great Bolgheri DOC wines.
